        Full Thermogen Review

        Product Overview

We’re sure lots of you will find your way here after seeing Thermogen advertised online. This fat burner is pretty new to the market, but we’re sure it will make a big splash soon enough.

Thermogen is produced and sold by Nexgen Nutrition. These guys make a wide range of bodybuilding supplements, including BCAAs, a pre-workout, and detox pills.

        Nexgen Thermogen Review

Thermogen claims to be an incredibly comprehensive and powerful fat burner. According to the label, Thermogen users can expect the following:

        • Enhanced focus
        • Increased energy
        • Boosted metabolism
        • Controlled appetite

If you take a quick look at the bottle, you’ll see that it has four distinct benefits right there on the label: “Focus”, “Energy”, “Toner”, and “Metabolizer”.

We always shudder a little when we see a product claiming to be a “toner”.

No supplement can “tone” up your muscles. That needs to be said right now.

In fact, the whole idea of “toning” up muscles is a little misleading. How “toned” your muscles look is a function of your muscle size and your body fat levels. The next time you hear “high reps for toning” in the gym, you know to never listen to that guy.

While this is a little misleading, since it is designed to help you lose more fat than muscle, we suppose it is technically right.

All-in-all, Themogen sounds like a very powerful fat burner. If it can really help with metabolism, focus and energy levels, then we will definitely have a solid supplement on our hands.

The question is, does Thermogen actually work?

Is it safe? What are the side effect risks?

What are other users saying about Thermogen?

Is there anything better out there? Does Thermogen deserve its premium price tag?

We’re going to answer all of these questions below in our detailed Thermogen review. If you have any questions, or if you think we’ve missed something out which we should include, please let us know in the comment section at the bottom.

        Thermogen Formula

To find out if Thermogen is really the amazing fat burner that Nexgen Nutrition say it is, we need to look at the formula. Here is the Thermogen ingredients list:

        Nexgen Nutrition Thermogen Formula

For some reason, the serving sizes are listed twice; once at 50% dosage, and once at 100% dosage. Since every other fat burner we review is judged on a full serving, we’ll just deal with the 4 capsule doses.

As always, there’s some things we like about the Thermogen formula, some things we don’t like, and some things we think are absolutely awful.

We’ll split our formula review up into two sections, the good and the bad, to make it easier for you to get your head around (and easier for us to write).

        What We Like

There are some really good natural fat burners in here at very good doses.

For example, we have 200mg of caffeine anhydrous per serving. That is, in our opinion, the perfect amount to take each day (assuming you are breaking up the dose into regular intervals).

Staying energized and focused in work and in the gym while dieting is a major challenge. Usually, as soon as we start eating less, our training suffers, we get moody, and our strength disappears.

Regular 50mg doses of caffeine anhydrous will keep you alert, awake, and motivated all day long despite being low on calories.

We also have 200mg of green coffee bean extract per serving, which is fantastic.

Green coffee bean extract is one of the most powerful, reliable and safe natural fat burners we know of. It is so effective that we wrote an entire article on it, which you can find here.

We think you only need 100mg of green coffee bean extract to get the benefits of chlorogenic acid (assuming the extract is of good quality, as it is here). Above 100-150mg, and green coffee bean extract seems to give diminishing returns. This means you don’t get any extra bang from your buck.

However, GCBE is very safe and well-tolerated at higher doses. You might not gain any extra benefits from using 200mg per day, but it is unlikely to cause you any problems.

Thermogen also contains 75mg of rhodiola rosea. This stuff will definitely help with the focus aspect of this supplement.

Rhodiola rosea has been scientifically proven to reduce fatigue, counteract stress, and improve mental performance while you are under acute stress.

This is why you will usually see rhodiola rosea in study supplements and brain boosters. It is safe, reliable, and predictable. Importantly, it seems to work well for everyone, not just people with a vitamin deficiency or something like that.

If using it on a daily basis, then 50mg of rhodiola rosea is all you need.

The 75mg in Thermogen is therefore more than enough, but it is still far from a worryingly high dose. Rhodiola rosea not going to cause 99.9% of you any problems with regards to side effects.

        What We Don’t Like

While there are some very good aspects to the Thermogen formula, there are many more things which we think count against it.

There are a number of different problems with the Thermogen formula. Taken together, these problems prevent this supplement from being a genuinely good fat burner.

The first problem relates to useless ingredients.

Several ingredients used in Thermogen are hyped up as powerful fat burners, yet there is usually no concrete scientific evidence proving that they do anything when taken by human beings.

For example, in each serving of Thermogen, we have 200mg of garcinia cambogia.

You will see plenty of articles (like this one) talking about how amazing garcinia cambogia is. According to some people, this stuff alone can have the pounds melting off you in minutes. People present various and sometimes conflicting explanations as to how it works; it apparently prevents hunger, makes you feel fuller after a meal, speeds up metabolism, “attacks fat stores”, and so on.

Yet there isn’t a shred of compelling, independent, robust scientific evidence proving that any of this is true. The only studies showing any effect form garcinia cambogia have found that it makes food taste better. Hardly a potent fat burner.

We could go on talking about how Yohimbe is thought to raise testosterone levels (but in reality does nothing), or how Yerba Mate is thought to be a stimulant-cum-appetite suppressant like caffeine (but in reality is incredibly weak relative to caffeine).

However, we think a single example is enough here, and we have another problem to deal with: dosing.

Several of the ingredients in Thermogen do have potent fat burning properties, but they are highly unlikely to work for you. That’s because they are dosed far too low in Thermogen to give you any benefit whatsoever.

A prime example here is the 200mg of green tea extract.

Green tea extract is a great natural metabolism booster. Several serious clinical trials have noted its ability to enhance fat loss. It seems able to significantly increase fat loss over a relatively short space of time.

However, most trials showing an effect from green tea extract have used more than 300mg per daily serving.

Most professional-quality, serious fat burners will provide more than 400mg of green tea extract per daily serving (depending on the concentration of EGCG in the extract).

The 200mg in Thermogen is not going to give you the results many have come to expect from green tea. Below 250mg per day, green tea extract does very little. This is a major disappointment.

It’s the same story with Capsimax.

Capsimax is a high quality cayenne pepper extract. We use cayenne pepper in fat burners as it naturally and safely raises your internal body temperature. This in turn forces your body to burn more calories in trying to keep you cool. This is the process often referred to as thermogensis.

Most high-quality fat burners will contain some chili extract, as it is such an easy, reliable and effective way to promote fat loss.

When other pathways such as appetite control and energy levels are taken care of, thermogenesis represents an easy win to add on top.

The problem here is that 50mg per day is not enough to make a meaningful difference to your rate of fat loss. Unless you are incredibly sensitive to cayenne powder, 50mg is probably not enough to induce a significant amount of thermogenesis. Our current top rated fat burner contains 100mg per serving, and it is not even primarily a thermogenic.

        Thermogen Review Conclusion

All things considered, Thermogen has many more weak points than strengths.

It contains a few very potent natural fat burning substances. These are dosed well, and they will no doubt give some users very good results.

But when Thermogen is compared to other premium fat burners on the market today, it doesn’t measure up.

It contains some ingredients that are simply all hype. Substances like garcinia cambogia and Yohimbe have a lot of PR behind them, but eventually people will realize that they have no substance backing them up.

Some great ingredients in Thermogen have also been drastically under-dosed. With just 200mg of green tea and 50mg of Capsimax per serving, this formula is cutting back in areas where it should be going in hard.

The fact that 200mg is dedicated to a useless substance like Garcinia Cambogia while a scientifically-proven fat burner like green tea extract is so laughably under-dosed is just crazy to us.

        So does Thermogen work?

We don’t doubt that some of you will get OK results from using this. It will certainly be better than other fat burners reviewed on this site, that’s for sure.

But is it worth the price tag? Can it compete with other products of a similar price? Not a chance.

If you want the best possible results from your next cut and you want the help of a professional-quality, reliable, top-of-the-line fat burner, then Thermogen is not what you’re looking for. If you care about value for money as well as results, check out our current top rated fat burners.
