Product Overview – What Is AndroShred?
AndroShred is a “hardcore fat burner” made by a company called XPI.
XPI offer a pretty much complete range of bodybuilding supplements, aimed at both men and women: protein powders, pre-workouts, testosterone boosters, and multivitamins.
In an attempt to help people lose fat but preserve muscle, XPI made AndroShred a kind of fat burner-cum-test booster. This makes it quite an interesting product. Lots of fat burners claim that their product burns fat and boosts testosterone, but few do little more than pay lip service to that goal. Most of those supplements will contain few to no test boosting ingredients.
So when we saw that the manufacturers have made an honest effort at making this product both a fat burner and a test booster, we knew we had to do a proper, comprehensive and detailed AndroShred Hardcore Fat Burner review.
According to XPI, AndroShred is able to help you:
- Burn stubborn body fat
- Raise testosterone levels
- Support lean muscle mass
More and more fat burners are promising testosterone boosting benefits these days, in large part because the market for natural testosterone boosters has grown rapidly in the last 5 years or so.
But few supplements understand how natural fat burners and testosterone boosters work, so instead of being both, most products end up being neither.
What about XPI AndroShred? Can it boost testosterone while supporting fat loss? Can it really help you lose fat while promoting lean muscle mass gains?
Is there anything out there that works even better?
Let’s take a close look at the formula and find out. Here’s our full XPI AndroShred Hardcore Fat Burner review.
AndroShred Formula Review
Here’s the AndroShred label, as it appears on the bottle:
This kind of formula layout is exactly what we like to see; not too many ingredients, good serving sizes, and most important of all, NO PROPRIETARY BLENDS!
Now on to the AndroShred ingredients themselves.
As we mentioned above, this product is formulated to be both a fat burner and a natural testosterone booster. While we all know that increased testosterone levels encourage fat loss and lean muscle mass preservation, we will divide the formula up into its two halves and discuss how effective each is, before looking at the formula as a whole.
The three main fat burning ingredients in AndroShred are Caffeine Anhydrous, Green Tea Extract (GreenSelect), and Higenamine.
Caffeine anhydrous is essentially a kind of purified (dehydrated) version of caffeine. Without the water molecules attached, it is more potent that regular caffeine on a pound-for-pound basis.
The benefits we can extract from caffeine are clear; it keeps us focused and attentive even when our energy levels are sapping (for example, when dieting), and it can reduce the perception of fatigue during intense physical exercise. This last property makes it a superb fat burner ingredient, as you will be able to train harder for longer, burning more calories despite having consumed less that day.
In terms of dosage, 250mg is close to perfect, so long as you have some experience using such supplements, are fit and healthy, and aren’t sensitive to stimulants in any way.
Green Tea Extract is another staple fat burner ingredient, because it confers more than one beneficial compound.
For starters, it provides theanine, which works synergistically with caffeine, amplifying its benefits but reducing the unwanted side effects (elevated heart rate, jitters, etc).
More importantly, Green tea Extract also usually confers a significant amount of ECGC; a catechin with incredible fat burning properties.
Numerous scientific studies have shown that ECGC is reliably able to stimulate and enhance the rate of fat loss in humans. The effectiveness of ECGC is very dose dependent, so simply drinking green tea is unlikely to have the desired effect. To actually reap the benefits of this incredible compound, a focused extract is necessary (practically speaking).
Higenamine is a substance that we have not yet spoken about on this website.
This stuff is derived from various plants, and it has been used in certain parts of the world as a natural anti-asthmatic. This property means that higenamine is known as a beta adrenergic agonist.
The way it works as an anti-asthmatic has led many people to believe that it also has fat burning properties. This is because it shares its anti-asthmatic property with Ephedrine; another beta adrenergic agonist that also happens to be a highly potent fat burner.
However, studies confirming this effect in vivo are, to our knowledge, non-existent.
Natural testosterone boosters are not our forte, but we really enjoyed researching these ingredients.
The rest of the AndroShred formula is made up of ingredients that have some known (albeit weakly proven in some cases) testosterone boosting properties.
The most important one in our opinion is Boron.
Boron is one of the few natural, non-hormonal substances that seems to have a strong, positive correlation with increased testosterone levels.
One pretty unequivocal study found that after just one week of Boron supplementation (11.6mg), the free testosterone plasma levels in eight healthy male volunteers were elevated. This study looked more generally at the effect of Boron supplementation, and found a similar trend towards increasing testosterone levels.
Another study looked at women who consumed a low-boron diet. Researchers found that if the women supplemented their diet with boron enough to bring it up to normal levels, their testosterone levels increased.
The next most important ingredient is without a doubt Zinc.
Zinc is quite simply a necessary part of the testosterone production chain. Without sufficient Zinc, your testosterone levels will inevitably decline.
Many people get plenty of Zinc from their food. That’s great, but for others, especially those who are training incredibly hard or who are following a strict diet, getting enough might be too difficult.
Fenugreek is very much a mixed bag.
It seems to work for some people and not for others.
For instance, this trial found that “500 mg of daily AI supplementation significantly affected percent body fat, total testosterone, and bioavailable testosterone compared with a placebo in a double-blind fashion”. The AI stands for aromatase inhibitor, and while it is not named in the excerpt, the study did focus on Fenugreek.
Yet this is one of the only instances of there being an observed link between Fenugreek supplementation and elevated testosterone levels.
The authors of this clinical study concluded that “supplementation of fenugreek extract does not appear to affect hormonal status in resistance trained males and shows no anabolic potential as has been purported”.
You can’t really get much ore emphatic in either case, yet they are each saying something completely different.
As such, we can’t view Fenugreek as a reliable natural testosterone booster.
Finally, we come to Tribulus Terestris.
As much as we don’t like to talk in absolutes on this site, we think it’s fair to say that this stuff simply doesn’t work.
We could list several studies which all conclude, without doubt, that Tribulus Terestris has no effect on steroid hormones. But that isn’t necessary here.
Instead, we will simply point you in the direction of this trial. It is generally representative of most studies done on this ingredient, and its conclusions are typical.
AndroShred Fat Burner Review Conclusion – Should I Buy It?
Unlike many of our reviews, we found this quite a difficult one.
There are many a AndroShred Hardcore fat burner review on the internet, and there are plenty to take a look at on Amazon, but many of them seem to either claim that this stuff is the best thing on the planet or that it is total garbage.
We think neither of these extremes is true.
Yes, AndroShred contains some ingredients that have very little scientific backing.
Yes, it also contains some excellent fat burners and natural testosterone supporting substances.
Sure, some of the formula is wasted on unproven ingredients like Higenamine.
In fact, some of the ingredients, such as Tribulus Terestris, have been shown in numerous trials NOT to work!
But the dosing of other ingredients, like caffeine anhydrous and boron, are just right.
In answer to the question that no doubt brought you to this AndroShred review in the first place: you could do a whole lot worse than AndroShred, but you could also do better.
